The Ideal Athlete


  • Arrives at least 10 minutes early for practice
  • Always has proper equipment (plus extras)
  • Gets in the water FIRST!
  • Respects teammates, coaches, parents, judges, officials, and competitors.
  • Constantly pushes herself to work harder
  • Seeks out opportunities for learning
  • Understands that corrections are not personal
  • Concerns herself more with improvement than with winning
  • Acts as a stellar role model for younger athletes
  • Never puts her head or ears under the water when the coach is talking
  • Raises her hand to ask a question
  • Asks to use the restroom
  • Stretches for at least 30 minutes EVERY day
  • Land drills, correctly, daily
  • Absolutely loves figures... understands how they fit into the big picture
  • Never wears a nose clip during swim workouts
  • Communicates with the coach if there's a problem
  • Never whines
  • Takes responsibility for her belongings, actions, success
  • Sets measurable goals and works hard to achieve them
  • Knows when it's time to focus and time to have fun
  • Involves herself with activities other than synchro... understands that synchro is not life
